FAIR TRADE

Fair Trade
What is it?
Fairtrade is a national, non-profit fair trade certification organization that works directly with businesses, campaigners and consumers. Fairtrade provides certification, licensing and education for the public and communities. Fairtrade products contain ingredients produced by small scale farmers and farmer organizations that meet Fair trade environmental, social and economic standards.

What standards must be met?
Standards must be in compliance with the ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Setting Social and Environmental Standards (http://www.isealalliance.org/). All producers and traders must meet these standards. The draft for the project assignment is placed on the Fair Trade International website (www.fairtrade.net), so that all stakeholders have the opportunity to comment on it. The comments determine modifications that are made before it becomes final.

What aspects are monitored?
The entire production from producer to final packaging process is monitored and audited.

What difference does it make?
-
Fair price paid to producers
-
High standard of human rights
-
Safe working conditions
-
Prohibition of child labour
