Ocean Wise

What is it?

Ocean Wise is a conservation program that is undertaking the current global over fishing crisis. Ocean Wise works individually and continuously with partners to ensure sustainable seafood purchasing decisions are made. Sustainable seafood is defined as fishing or farming practices that does not negatively effect the long term health or stability of that species. Without proper labeling it is difficult to ensure where or how seafood is caught and whether it is sustainable. Ocean Wise guarantees that products labelled with their logo meet their 4 criteria:

1.     Abundant and resilient to fishing pressures.
2.     Well managed with a comprehensive management plan based on current research.
3.     Harvested in a method that ensures limited bycatch on non-target and endangered species.
4.     Harvested in ways that limit damage to marine or aquatic habitats and negative interactions with other species.
